Help Exchange: Volunteer and Travel The World Cheaply

Volunteering around the world is easier and cheaper than ever, and it can really help you gather a global perspective on what it means to be human.

HelpX is provided primarily as a cultural exchange for working holiday makers who would like the opportunity during their travels abroad, to stay with local people and gain practical experience. In the typical arrangement, the helper works an average of 4 hours per day and receives free accommodation and meals for their efforts.

At HelpX, as a Helper, you have the opportunity to visit far away places you might not otherwise see, you integrate directly into the community by living with and working for a local person, and you get free food and accommodation. What could be a better way to travel the world? Of course, you’ll most likely have to pay your airfare to the location and pay for anything extra. Since every listing is highly individual, your length of stay or type of work could vary wildly from one place to the next.

Volunteer Abroad - Voluntary Service Overseas - VSO UK

Volunteer Service Overseas is a government-funded project run by the UK government and only open to UK citizens, but they do have branches in a few other countries such as India, China, and Ireland, although each branch is funded separately and is essentially its own organization.

Service for the regular VSO, which requires you to be 25-75 years old, lasts two years, but all of the expenses are paid for, including travel to and from the country, and you’re even paid a small stipend. Don’t expect to be rolling in cash, but you’ll have enough to get by.

As a VSO volunteer, you’ll live and work alongside local professionals, helping improve the quality of life for people who need it most. What’s more, you’ll experience a different culture in a way few people ever can. You’ll change lives – including your own.

7 April Fool's Day Pranks To Play On Your Friends' PC

Makeuseof.com has come up with some harmless pranks to play on your friends' computer. If you’re looking for a super easy and 100% harmless way to trick someone, play with their desktop icons. First, take a screenshot of the current desktop. Next, hide all desktop icons: right-click the desktop, go to View and unselect Show desktop icons. If you want to make this slightly more frustrating, change the wallpaper to the screenshot you took earlier: right-click the desktop, go to Personalize, click on Desktop Background in the lower left, and browser for the respective image. The desktop will look exactly like it did before, only that none of the icons will be clickable.
