Official Gmail Blog: New in Labs: Right-side Labels and Chat
With Right-side Labels enabled, you can see both the Labels and the Chat buddies at the same time, with one on the left and one on the right. (This is where that widescreen comes in handy.) If you prefer to move Chat instead of Labels, there is an option as well.
This blog is about the latest gizmos and other tech news. I will also be posting about all the useful software & utilities available for free on the internet.

Why do you screw around developing right-side labels? What we really need is a FOLDER SYSTEM!!
Yes, please find a way to do folders.
The previous posters are NUTS! Why would I want to have folders, other than for nesting. I hate folders in my corp email because I either have duplicate copies, one for each relevant folder, or I later have to remember where I filed something. I love that I can apply multiple labels to an email. If the Gmail team can come up with a way to do embedded labels (like a folder hierarchy) then I think they will make a lot of people happy. That certainly would help with organization, I agree.
So, my apology to the previous posters - if that is what you meant, then I agree it would be a nice feature.
